To most of the world and especially US consumers, the words “Made in the USA” matter more than ever before. Recent polling finds that 78 percent of Americans would rather buy an American product when given a choice between like goods, and 60 percent of respondents said they’d buy American-made clothes and appliances even if they cost 10-25 percent more than imported versions.
According to Newark, NJ-based Unionwear President Mitch Cahn, "The growth in (domestic) manufacturing now is because overseas (manufacturing) and exploitation have become much more expensive…’Made in USA’ has relatively become a bargain. This is a once in a generation opportunity."
By the close of 2014, Made in USA clothing had gained back measurable market share in nearly 25 years. Manufacturers are finding advantage in closely monitored production standards, shorter lead times and consumer response.
